Briefing 10 - Building in Bushfire-Prone Areas
This Briefing provides guidance on the design and construction of all new buildings, concentrating on solutions incorporating concrete and masonry materials. It is fundamental to this document that any building envelope, in any bushfire-prone area of Australia, should be built with materials that are robust and noncombustible. This document complements Cement Concrete & Aggregates Australia publication Houses for Bushfire-prone Sites (TN 66). The latter contains useful information on the nature of bushfire attack, retrofitting existing houses for bushfire defence, and landscaping to improve building safety in bushfires. This document is intended for use by any one involved in the design and construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas including building designers, architects, builders, local authorities, developers and owners.
